Rockets GM Daryl Morey is not shy about exploring ways to bring Chris Paul to Houston. Morey is rumored to be clearing cap space for soon-to-be free agent Dwight Howard.
Howard would be content playing in Housto. Paul has given many indications that he has no plan on leaving Los Angeles as a free agent this summer. Paul will be offered a max contract in the ball park of $107 million for 5 years. It’s hard to turn that down.
Either way Daryl Morey is always up to good. He could sign David West, Josh Smith, or Dwight Howard and still be alright. West, however is most likely to stay of all 3.
A Big 3 of James Harden, Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul is a master super team. Dwight’s max contract would be at $20.51 million, while Paul’s would be at $18.69 million. The NBA salary cap is going to be $58.5 million. It’s impossible to pull off that big 3 because Houston has $39.3 million in contracts, and they would have just $4.2 million on average per player. Even with MLE it’s impossible to pull off.
If Howard decides to leave the Lakers will easily sign and trade to get something in return.
The most likely quick trade would be Thomas Robinson and Omer Asik, also Tertence Jones could be worked in there somewhere.
